This is the 3rd year that Bryan and I "taking the PLUNGE" to raise money for Camp Sunshine, a place that has become dear to our hearts in the past 4 years.
In March of 2009 our oldest son, Joseph, was diagnosed with a brain tumor 10 days before his 2nd birthday. Despite treatment, he died just 4 months later. There are no words to describe the permanent hole left in our hearts and our lives.
We discovered Camp Sunshine in 2010 when we (reluctantly) attended one of their bi-annual family bereavement retreats. There, we met 40 other families who had also lost their children to illness (mostly cancer) and who were trying to navigate life without them. Uniting with those other families was life-changing because they offered us the validation and support that we needed to gain stability in the wake of our indescribable loss. We have attended six bereavement retreats at Camp Sunshine since 2010 and they continue to be the most important tool that has helped us find our footing.
All camp sessions are offered to the entire family (siblings included!) and are free-of-charge for those who attend. Camp Sunshine is fully funded by donors and fundraisers like this one so, please, help us give back to a place that has given families like ours the hope we so desperately needed to survive our heartbreaking loss.
(If you are sane and unwilling to plunge, please consider a donation - thanks!) :)
