I first went to Camp Sunshine for the brain tumor session the summer of 2004 with my mom and my sister Lexie. Lexie has a brain tumor and has had it since she was 3 1/2 months old. She's now 21, and I'm 23. Camp Sunshine is my home away from home. It is, without a doubt, my favorite place to be in the entire world. Camp Sunshine is the first place I came to terms with my life as the sibling of a brain tumor patient and what that meant. There I talked to other siblings and realized all my confusing and conflicted feeling were perfectly normal and expected. Now I co-lead sibling groups at Camp with Nancy Cincotta to help other siblings of kids with cancer or other life threatening illnesses realize that none of their feelings are at all wrong. I also volunteer now, along with my mom, sister, and our pet therapy dogs Max, Bella, and Remy. Camp Sunshine is truly a magical place, and I have seen some incredible miracles happen there. Camp saved my life and brought my family closer. I am never happier than when I am there. I have made some of my closest friends and found some of the people most important to me there. I want to give this experience to others families because Camp changed my life and they deserve to have their lives changed too.
